Music

Subject Vision

Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. We want to inspire the minds of tomorrow to be creative and proactive musicians as music is a strong medium for personal expression and it can play an important part in the personal development of people.

Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the specialist teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world they live in.

Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music can also be a highly academic and demanding subject especially when learning a specific musical instrument such as: the guitar, keyboard, steel pan or violin.

When the children are ready, musical notation is taught and children are taught correct musical terminology e.g. scale, pitch, scoring, rhythm, melody and dynamics.

We endeavour that children will be able to read and understand music as well as play orally, extracts and/or whole musical pieces.

Music will also play an important part in helping children feel part of a community. We provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music, to develop the life-long skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms, and to begin to make judgements about the quality of music.
