Goodrich Community Primary School

Physical Education

Subject Vision

The aim of the PE curriculum at Goodrich Community Primary School is to be an all-inclusive subject which encourages pupils to lead an active and healthy lifestyle through their love of sport.

This is achieved by offering a broad curriculum, including activities for all such as tennis, football, gymnastics, basketball, dance, bench ball, athletics, cricket, tag rugby and swimming.

Having a range of apparatus and equipment enables us to teach children of all abilities irrespective of their physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Through sensory PE, children can use their fine and gross motor skills to actively partake in the subject.

PE also plays a role in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development.  Physical education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus we enable them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.

Other than the curriculum subject of PE, Goodrich Community Primary School offers children an opportunity to further develop their skills by training at before and after school clubs in a variety of sporting activities.

We attend numerous borough competitions in all sports with some culminating in the school representing Southwark at the London Youth Games.

PE at Goodrich is taught twice weekly to encourage an active and healthy lifestyle.
